Using Google Places to Get To The Top of Local Business Search Results[VIDEO]
Having spoken to a friend of mine who runs a local business, I wanted to share with you a method of getting to the top of Google fast.
What’s even better is that this is not the usual SEO or backlinking strategy. It’s a simple tool that businesses miss out on and therefore miss out on lots of lovely traffic.
The tool is part of the Google suite of tools. It’s called Google Places and it enables you to feature at the top of the search results as part of the geographical results (also known as ‘Local Business results’). This is the tool that used to be called Google Business Center and it works like a dream.
I added several clients to this and immediately got them as the first thing people see when they arrive at their search results.

Like your video. I used to be on top of Places but a competitor(that really isn’t a competitor has managed to knock me off. No matter what I do I can’t seem to get ahead again. Can you please check out my listing and offer some advice. The main searches are Oahu Pet Photographer and Hawaii Pet Photographer.

I had a quick look at your listings. First of all, great job. They look really good. The only difference I can see between yours and the person who is above you for Hawaii Pet Photographer is their location and the number of places that link to their site. If you use firefox as your browser, try the Keyword Spy plugin. It will show you how many links your competitor has when you search. Click the number and it will list all the places that link to their site. If you get plenty of links back to your site using your keywords as the anchor text, you will rise up the rankings on Google and on Places.
