What Does Bounce Rate Mean? – Bounce Rate Explained

what does bounce rate meanIf you’ve looked into your website statistics using a tool like Google Analytics, you’ve almost certainly come across the words ‘Bounce Rate’.

But, you may be asking, what does bounce rate mean?

Incidentally, if you happen to be reading this and have never heard of Google Analytics, it’s simply a way in which to measure the stats for your site, enabling you to see what pages are working well and which ones aren’t, as well as your traffic sources, the keywords people are using to find you and a ton of other useful information.

If you haven’t installed it on your site, sign up for free and start tracking your site. There are good Analytics plugins for WordPress if you use that to manage your site or blog.

Bounce Rate Explained

According to Google Analytics, the bounce rate is simply the percentage of single-page visits to your site, i.e. where the visitor arrived at your site, looked at the information on the page they landed on and then left without going onto any more pages. It doesn’t have to do with the time they spend on the site. The visit can last a second or 10 minutes, but if they only visit one page before leaving the site, it’s considered a ‘bounce’.

Now, that said, it doesn’t always mean that the visitor left because of the content on your site. It may be that they stayed on that page to read the entire page, post or article, got the information they were looking for, then left.

Generally speaking, it is received wisdom that the higher the bounce rate, the worse the site is performing. However, that isn’t necessarily true. Read the rest of this entry »

Mark Anastasi Traffic Seminar

Me with Mark Anastasi at one of his events

If you’ve been reading this blog for any time at all, you’ll probably have heard me mention the power of attending live events within the world of internet marketing, not just for the knowledge you can gain from the presentations, but also for the incredible networking opportunities it provides.

When I was getting started, one of my inspirations was Mark Anastasi (that’s him with me in the photo). He created an online business for himself after finding and following a mentor and now runs seminars showing others the way to do the same with all sorts of new media. Many of the seminars he runs combine the great stuff from conventional business and improves on it via the use of the internet. Just recently, I attended his excellent Facebook seminar and not only did I learn the skills to make Facebook a major traffic source for my business, but I also got to meet and hang out with some of the UK’s top marketers, some of whom have become friends that help me succeed.

Well, Mark is about to host a huge seminar in London that will show people who are serious about online business exactly how to drive loads of traffic to their websites.

The event is called The Ultimate Traffic Generation Summit and will be held at a hotel in central London.

Targeted traffic is one of those keys to online business. In fact, I’d even go so far as saying it’s the key to online business. Without traffic you don’t have the chance to make money.

What’s cool about the event that Mark is hosting is that they will be sharing both free and paid traffic strategies. I use both of these in my business so I’m really excited to learn how some of the speakers leveraged their money to get tons of targeted traffic.

I should mention that it won’t just be Mark sharing his tips and secrets either… Read the rest of this entry »

Get Your Blog Featured On Major News Sites Using This Free Tool. Awesome Stuff…

This is very clever indeed.

Imagine if you could get your blog in front of the key players of big news sites. That would be cool, right? Read on…

I’ve been working with a couple of companies over the last few weeks and months, trying to get their blogs and websites more traffic.

The thing with blogs is that, if you have one (ideally on WordPress or Blogger), then the search engines tend to love you that little bit more.

You see, unlike a standard website where the content only changes rarely, a blog can be updated several times a week with new, unique content. The ‘unique’ part of that equation is why the search engines tend to love you more.

They’re always looking for good quality, unique content to give their users and if your stuff is targeted to a niche and is of good quality, then you can be sure to get more traffic.

However, I’ve now found a fantastic way of potentially getting a deluge of traffic to your blog.

You submit your blog to the BlogBurst service. If they approve it (they decide that it’s good quality and the sort of thing their people want), then they syndicate or distribute your blog content to sites like TimeWarner, The San Francisco Chronicle andThe Chicago Sun Times.

These sites get a shedload of traffic daily. One of your posts appearing on their site could make you a blogging star virtually overnight.

Best of all, it’s free to sign-up and submit your blog. How good is that?!

So go ahead and register and good luck!
