How To Promote a Website – 3 Methods of Website Promotion

how to promote your websiteIn a way, this post actually leads on from my post on How To Get Traffic To Your Blog, in which I showed 5 ways to promote a blog or blog post. Naturally you can use some of those methods to promote a website or offer, just as easily as you can to promote a blog.

However, this post is about a few more methods you can use to promote offers and make money from your site, whether they’re affiliate offers or your own product or service.

It also stems from a lesson I truly learned this past week. I say ‘truly’ because I think that unless you can and actually do apply what you’ve learned, then you’ve only half learned it.

I want to just cover this briefly before we get to the actual methods of how to promote a website.

The lesson seems simple enough: Go where the traffic is.

But most people with sites or blogs aren’t doing it and yet they’re still hoping to get loads of visitors, subscribers and sales.

You see, last week, I got to see behind the scenes of a large internet marketing outfit. I say large, it actually only consists of three guys, but they’re making hundred of thousands of dollars per month with what they do. This got me thinking…

If you think about it, there are certain hubs online where there’s already traffic in abundance. These include places like:

  • Google
  • YouTube (the second largest search engine in the world)
  • Facebook
  • Established mailing lists

What you need to do is to get in the way of that traffic to present your site and/or offer or service.

Now I know what you’re thinking…

‘Yes Matt, this is obvious. To get traffic you need to go where the traffic is.’

So why are most people (possibly you included) building sites and expecting the traffic to come to them?

Many people, when they start a site, fill it with great content, make it look great and then promote it via small streams of traffic that will never lead to bigger flows of visitors. Some of it comes down to a lack of willingness to spend some money, of which more later. And sure, it’s fine to promote your site to your friends and family, or to post updates on Twitter, but if you don’t already have a decent-sized following (of several thousand) on Twitter, the chances are that you won’t see lots of traffic.

This site gets around 2500 unique visitors per month at the moment and growing. Now that’s not massive, but it does lead to me building a subscriber list that grows daily and allows me to promote useful products to my readers.

I want you to bear in mind that to really get thousands of visitors, you need to Read the rest of this entry »

How To Succeed Online: Millionaire Mentor Session Podcast with Neil Asher

WARNING: Neil gets pretty passionate about his subject matter and is very blunt about what works and what doesn’t. As a result, the conversation does get a bit ‘sweary’. If you have an issue with people swearing, don’t listen, as this podcast is not edited for language.

If you’ve already clicked the play button (and why wouldn’t you?) and you want to get Neil’s offer, then click here.

So… to the subject of this (pretty awesome) interview:

neil asherWhen I first got started working online, I realised the importance of getting a mentor. More specifically, I needed to find someone who had succeeded in doing what I wanted to do.

At that time, I wanted to create my own products in a variety of niches but had no idea where to start. The cool thing about getting a (good) mentor who has already trodden that same path is just that: They’ve been there, done that and hopefully they have the bank balance to prove it.

Well Neil Asher ticked all those boxes for me. He’d created a number of businesses and used online marketing to promote them, eventually making a very large part of his very large income (he’s a multi-millionaire) from creating products in different niches and selling them online. And thanks to the list building he’s done in each of these markets, he can now make more money by providing more great products to his previous buyers.

So, I got in touch with Neil and even before I was on his coaching course as a paid up member, he helped me with some great information and guidance.

I joined his course and got great value from it. Since then, I’ve used the strategies and, more importantly, the way of thinking to make money online. I’m not a millionaire yet but I’m on the journey. Thanks to this interview, you can get an insight into what you need to do to be on the same path.

Search Engine Optimisation Advice from Top SEO Expert Matt Cutts – Awesome Training Video

OK, it’s official. I’m a huge nerd.

Trying to pretend that I’m even slightly cool is no longer an option.

I was surfing through the blogosphere (which sounds cool, but isn’t really), looking at some of the top 100 internet marketing blogs out there. Incidentally, if you want to check out the IM blog charts (you know you want to) then visit Winning The Web’s Top IM Blogs.

On one of the blogs – owned by IM expert Matt Cutts – I found this little gem. Actually, Matt’s site is full of little gems. Come to think of it, that’s probably why he’s an expert…

Anyway, Matt’s a bit of a genius when it comes to search engine optimisation. In this video he shares TONS of great information which I know will help your understanding of SEO. So, here it is, in its entirety. It’s a long video – a whole hour, in fact – but it’s time well spent.

Enjoy it and let me know what you think below.

Brilliant Free Plugin for WordPress To Cloak Your Links And Make Them Look Pretty!

I’ve discovered a little gem for you all, thanks to my marketing mate Wayne Lambert.

Wayne was checking out my blog and noticed that I was using bit.ly in order to cloak my links. Cloaking links is a good way of making links more attractive to the reader. For example, it’s always a good idea to cloak links to affiliate products in order to make them look better. ClickBank has started using particularly ugly affiliate links for products that look like this:

Using bit.ly, you can shorten the link to make it look like this instead:

http://bit.ly/ExampleLink

Now this looks much better already, but it isn’t associated with your own site. This is where Wayne stepped in and suggested a little work of plugin genius.

It’s called Pretty Links and it enables you to create Read the rest of this entry »
