Major Problem Solved – Get Your Own WordPress Development Superhero

‘Oh, *$%@ing hell!’

I can’t remember exactly, but I’m pretty sure that was one of the first things I said at about 1:30pm on Saturday.

I was busy working on my website, I’d updated a plugin or two and was busy adding the video and form that you can see on the right of the blog. I refreshed the page to double-check that the front page was as I wanted it.

And then it happened.

The front page started redirecting to the ‘Confirm Your Subscription’ page. I had no idea why and tried looking through every bit of code I could find to see why it had happened.

In fact, I ended up spending hours on The Warrior Forum trying to find an expert. Even when I deleted the page, it kept redirecting to the page and returning a 404 error (the error that happens when a page can’t be found or no longer exists). The Warriors were helpful, but I didn’t have time to implement all their suggestions as I was about to go out. Also, I wasn’t sure how expert they were at WordPress.

By this stage I was raging with frustration… It appeared that my website was really screwed up and that I may start losing traffic and looking a little incompetent at the same time.

Then I remembered an e-mail that the owner of The Money Gym (Nicola Cairncross) had sent me, mentioning a guy that has helped her with all things technical when it comes to her websites. I remembered that I’d actually met Steve Watson at one of Nicola’s events. He certainly seemed knowledgeable, and one look at his website confirmed that he was my best hope of sorting the problem.

I sent him an e-mail and he replied within a couple of hours. Not only did he reply quickly, but he’d logged into my WordPress site (I sent him the details) and located the problem, which turned out to be a dodgy plugin malfunction.

He then put it right, and the site was up and running as usual in no time. Brilliant.

Needless to say, I’d highly recommend Steve’s services. He’s a great guy and has helped Nicola to build a huge and very successful business online. If you need help with WordPress, he’s your man.

You mean when you click on blog, it was redirecting to page created “Confirm Your Subscription” right? I had same issue today. Problem i figured out lately was, it is because i was using “redirection wordpress plugin” i immediately removed it and things were back to normal. Looks like you too using same plugin right? It is not compatible with 3.0

      Hey Joel,

Yes, exactly! I was using ‘Redirection’ and it was causing all the problems. I got rid of it (thanks to Steve, who I mentioned in the post) and all the problems went away. I now use the ‘Pretty Links’ plugin instead and it actually works better than Redirection. Give that a try if you need to shorten or cloak links.

      Matt
