Blogging Tips – What To Write In A Blog – What To Blog About
When it comes to sitting down to write a blog, one issue crops up for bloggers time and again.
Even when we’re passionate about our subject, at one time or another we’ll draw a blank and wonder what to blog about. This article aims to show you a few sources you can use for inspiration as well as a few of my own ideas on how to find and/or create some good content that people will actually want to read.
OK, first things first: The idea that there’s nothing to write about is nonsense. Really, it is.
Think about it. There are hundreds, thousands maybe even millions of very specialist blogs out there (just search on Technorati) that all manage to produce information about their topic day in and day out. There are also thousands of news networks across the world who can produce enough news to fill their bulletins. If there’s that much information out there, surely you can find something to write or comment about in your own niche or area of interest.
What’s really required is a shift in the way you think about what to write in a blog. Rather than thinking about what you can tell people, look at what people want to read or consume. If you master that, you’ll never be without a topic again.
Here are some ways I use to discover what my potential readers want to read and therefore what to blog about:
- In the spirit of researching your readers, look at your own blog and see which of your posts got the most feedback. This can be in the form of sharing your posts on Facebook or other social sites, or simply the fact that the post got the most comments or views. Google Analytics will give you the information about the number of view you’re getting. If you blog using WordPress (as I do) then you can use a plugin like WordPress Popular Posts to get the lowdown on what’s popular on your site.
- If you’re looking to attract new readers (and who isn’t?) then go to the top blogs in your niche or market and see what they’re writing about that’s getting lots of comments. If they’ve started a discussion about a topic, see if you can start a similar discussion on your own site. It doesn’t have to be about the exact same topic, but perhaps you can take an aspect of it and expand upon that in a way that the top blogger didn’t. You could even link your post to theirs, saying that you were inspired to write your post after reading theirs. This gives them some love from your site (which they’ll appreciate) and also lists you in the pingback section of their blog post (usually close to the comments section) giving their readers a way to find your blog and expand on the discussion.

Full Market Samurai Review – Best Keyword Research Tool
When it comes to making money online, ensuring you do the best keyword research possible is essential.
What do I mean by ‘the best keyword research‘?
Well, it’s actually disarmingly simple but so many people get this wrong, so I thought I’d explain what my definition of that phrase is, along with the ways to do it effectively. Plus, I’m going to show you a tool you can buy which will put you miles ahead of the competition.
If you want to go straight to the Market Samurai Review, simply scroll down and watch the two videos below.
OK, so for me, good keyword research is all about finding keywords with the following attributes:
- You can rank highly for them relatively easily (with perhaps only a few hundred backlinks maximum).
- They are what the market is looking to buy, not information keywords.
- They are not confused with other possible uses. For example, some keywords are also names of products in other markets, so you need to be wary of these. For a great example of this, read this post and watch the video on Pat Flynn’s excellent blog.
- There are exact match domain names available upon which I can build targeted sites.
So, with that in mind the next obvious question is: What is the best keyword research tool?
Well, it’s worth saying that there are plenty of good free keyword research tools out there. When I first got started I used:
- Google’s Keyword Research Tool
- The SEO Book Keyword Tool – Go to Keyword Suggestion on the main page and you’ll find the keyword tool. You need to register but it’s free to do so.
However, both of these fall down because they don’t go far enough. You see, I want my keyword tool to tell me not just the amount of potential traffic (accurately), but also the value of that traffic. I would also like it to tell me what the phrase-to-broad-match ratio is, because this will determine how much ‘extra’ traffic I get from other similar searches and whether or not my keyword will get drowned out by those searches.
If it could tell me the competition I’m facing too, that would be awesome.
For me, the best keyword research tool is Market Samurai, because it does all of the above and tons more. I’ve been using it for a while and I have to say, I’m still regularly amazed by how good it is and how much quicker and more accurate it’s made my research.
In the following videos, I show you a full piece of keyword research from start to finish, using Market Samurai. Enjoy the full review as you watch over my shoulder and if you want to get a free trial simply click any of the Market Samurai links or the banners in this post.
Free Article Marketing Tips and Training For All For My 100th Blog Post
Well folks, it’s finally here…
It’s taken a fair bit longer than I anticipated it would, but it’s here. I’m proud to say that this is the 100th post on Adventures in Internet Marketing. Hurrah! [cue fireworks]
To celebrate, I wanted to create something special and above all, really useful for my readers. I was stuck for something to do, when I happened to have a chat with my Mum about ways to promote her website. She’s a very good writer (having been an English teacher for many years) and knows a lot about her subject, but as we all know, it’s not enough to reach the level of traffic you want.
She needs to share that info with the world. The best way I could think of to marry her writing with her knowledge was for her to write good, keyword-rich articles.
So, I set about planning a video course for her.
Thing is, I realised that many of you might benefit from it too. And as it’s the 100th post, I thought:
‘What better way to thank everyone and provide great value than by giving away an article writing course for free?’
So, here it is. All I ask is that you leave a message below if you enjoyed and used the info in the videos and that you share it with anyone you think might also benefit from it.
Here goes:

Video Two – Keyword Research
The Thinking Behind The Adventures in Internet Marketing
I asked my subscribers for their feedback recently. I simply posed the question: ‘What do you want to learn?’
One of the many replies I recieved was from a guy called Ian who asked a couple of very good questions. I thought that rather than just answering him via e-mail, I would share the questions and my answers to them.
So here goes:
Do you look for the niche first then create a product around it or do you have an idea for a product then research it’s viability?
This is an interesting one. The truth is, I’ve done it both ways but from my experience, there’s only one way that is very likely to work:
- Find a niche that you have some interest in – The interest isn’t vital but helps to determine where you start looking.
- Find out if there are people selling to that market – Run a search for all the terms you can think of relating to that niche and see if there are Google ads for it. Also look to see if there are people on the first page with things to sell on their site.
- Find out if there are people buying in that market (this is vital) – Forums within your niche are a good place for this. Also, look on Clickbank and Amazon to see if there are products out there. On Clickbank you can see if the product is actually selling.
- Find out what they want to buy – Note that I didn’t say ‘need’ to buy. Again, best way is to ask them. Go to forums and see what they’re discussing and what problems aren’t being solved well enough by others.
- Then create a product around that and place it on Clickbank.
When I first started, I created a product that I thought the market needed. It was a lot harder to sell than subsequent products because I was attempting to sell them something I thought they needed. In fact, I should have looked into what they wanted to buy. I also needed a market full of rabid buyers – ideally people who are obsessed by their field of interest. The classic example are golfers, but there are hundreds out there.
One advanced strategy that my mentor shared with me is
