Why Most Online Businesses Fail and How You Can Be A Success
Assuming you’ve been interested in online marketing for more than about 5 minutes, you’ll doubtless have heard the statistics that are quoted ad infinitum about why online businesses fail. I’m assuming they’re mostly talking financially, in that these people don’t manage to reach profitability or if they do, they don’t generate enough income.
Perhaps the most oft-quoted statistic is that 95% of people who ‘try’ to make it online, don’t.
I don’t know where that stat comes from and I don’t much care. I desire you to have the kind of success that you want, which is the point of this blog post… The failure rate is not where our focus must be if we’re to achieve success.
So, here goes…
There are 3 key reasons why online businesses fail:
- People create jobs for themselves on the internet to replace their offline job. They don’t create businesses.
- They are overwhelmed by all the information and potential directions they could possibly take.
- Their focus is on themselves and earning money, not on how they can provide a solution for those that need and/or want it.
That last one is a biggie, and I’ll deal with it in more depth shortly, but let me briefly explain each of the above in order so you can achieve what you desire.
People create jobs, not businesses
This is one of those things that many people don’t realise they’re doing until it’s too late.
They set out with the best intentions, selling services online. Many great marketers started out this way, but crucially, they didn’t stay there for very long. There’s a good reason for this:
If you can’t step away from what you’ve created online and still earn money, then you don’t have a business, you have a job.
Selling your services is a great way to earn money online and with the power of the internet, you can find clients far more easily than you would if you were cold calling or going ‘door-to-door’.
It’s a wonderful way to get started, as it means you can use skills you already have and simply transfer them onto the internet, in places like The Warrior Forum.
But it isn’t the key to a successful business because Read the rest of this entry »
Why Motivation Is For Losers… And What To Have Instead
Over the past few months, I’ve been seeing far greater results in my business and in my personal life, thanks to various changes I’ve made in my mindset. One of them is changing the process I use to ‘get motivated’.
You see, the idea of getting motivated never really made sense to me. Either you’re motivated or you’re not. ‘Getting motivated’ implies that there’s a need to obtain motivation from outside yourself, and if you need that, you’re not doing the right thing (in my opinion). What you’re doing should be inspiration enough, right?
One of the key things that has helped me to change my mindset is the wisdom of my friend Andy and his brilliant book A Bug Free Mind. You can get the first 5 chapters here for FREE.
The following video explains exactly why motivation doesn’t work and what you require instead if you want to be successful. Enjoy!
What’s The Point of Your Business? – A Quick Exercise in Clarity
Well, what’s your answer?
The r
eason I ask is that I recently experienced a rather embarassing moment. I wanted to let you know about it as I think it’ll help you to get a clearer vision of your own online endeavours.
You may even think slightly less of me once I tell you it, but I’m prepared to risk it…
In fact, the embarassing moment is actually a series of moments that have struck me or occured in the last few weeks.
It started with a colleague of mine simply asking me ‘What are you working on at the moment?’
I couldn’t answer. Or at least, I couldn’t answer in any clear, structured way. I couldn’t pinpoint what my business was, and therefore what its goals and aims were. I felt stupid as I had a very blunt realisation:
I hadn’t defined my business and the service I want to provide. I had no definite, clear goal to aim for.
I think I mumbled something about blogging and building a list and doing affiliate marketing… Whatever I said, it made me want to crawl into a ditch.
Up until that point I’d seen my business as a means of making money for myself in order to improve my life and that of the people around me. But this, as you can perhaps already see, is the wrong perspective. Looking at it that way, I’m seeing it as a vehicle for myself and myself only.
Instead, I realised that I need to consider it from the point-of-view of Read the rest of this entry »
How I Made An Extra $3,295.28 Last Month (in July 2011)
I’ve been wanting to write a post like this for a little while as I think it’s useful to you if I share some income figures with you.
In fact, by the end of the year I’m planning to be doing a monthly income report here on the blog so you can see what I’m making and how. That way you can see how you can do the same. Where I can, I’ll help you to do that.
My aim is also provide some inspiration to those of you who read my blog and may be on the same journey.
So, with that said…
Last month, I added an extra $3,295.28 to my monthly income over the course of July 2011 (£2027.40 converted according to exchange rates on 3rd August 2011). I’ll explain how in a moment.
Just before I do, I know that’s quite a claim, so I wanted to back it up immediately with proof. If you can’t see the image below clearly, simply click it to blow it up:
Ignoring the smaller amounts – which are from a $1 Warrior Special Offer I launched last year and $77 which is from a PLR offer I have on the back end of one of my squeeze pages – all the amounts you see are from the same method. In fact, I actually made more than stated in the title, but I’ve allowed for Paypal fees so you get the figure I actually took home.
In fact, if you’ve been reading my blog in the last month, then you may have seen my post on How to Make Money Online Fast, which will give you a little clue as to how I made this money. Read the rest of this entry »
How To Make Money Online Fast – Skills To Pay The Bills
One question that comes up time and again is that of how to make money online fast. This is my answer…
First of all, you need to understand that making money is a skill. It isn’t reserved for the super intelligent or the wealthy. It’s something that everyone can do, but it requires you to invest both time and money.
The chances are that most people reading that have just left this page, looking for the quick fix. If you’re still reading, then congratulations, you’ve passed the first test!
The good news for you is that there are many ways to make money online quickly. Long term, I would suggest that you get a mentor who’s already done it and proved they’ve done it and follow their methods to the letter. But you’re looking for quicker ways than that.
By far the quickest is to sell services.
You might be thinking: ‘Well, that’s fine for you to say Matt, but I don’t have a service to sell.’
If you are thinking that then I have a question for you: How do you earn your money right now?
You see, there’s a good chance that as you read this, you already have a skill or an ability that you use every day that you can harness, and then use the power of the internet to deliver that skill to people who need it.
Let me give you a couple of examples, including how I’ve done this. Remember these are just examples of services you can sell. There are literally hundreds of services you can sell: Read the rest of this entry »
The Best Internet Marketing Blogs on How To Create Big Plans, Get Big Results and Why You Need Indicators
It’s been a little while since my last post on here. I’ve been working on a very exciting little project which I’m going to announce on here tomorrow, but in the meantime, I wanted to share some blogs with you that I believe will help you as they’ve helped me.
The first is the blog of a great marketing thinker of our time: Seth Godin. You may have already heard his name and if you’re a fan of my blog on Facebook, then you’ll know that I recently posted a video of him speaking about blogging. Well, Seth has written a very short, simple post that sums up what you need to do to get big results. Don’t be fooled by the fact it’s short. It looks simple because it is and Seth is a master at stripping away the nonsense and going with what works. Simply click the link to read Seth’s post entitled: ‘Make Big Plans‘
One of my role models for this blog since I started it just over a year ago is a blogger called Yaro Starak. Yaro has been internet marketing for several years and has created incomes using forums, blogs and joint ventures among other things. He also has a podcast and video series that has inspired my own video channel on YouTube and podcast on iTunes. One particular post series has been very inspiring to me and I wanted to share it with you. It’s called ‘A Day In The Life Of An Internet Entrepreneur‘ and this version is the updated 2009 edition. You can also read his original 2005 version via the same link. Yaro is a great blogger and writes in a very informative style, holding nothing back. Check it out.
Finally, you might Read the rest of this entry »
