Hey folks,

Just a quick note to say that for those of you that experienced problems accessing the site last week, this was due to a hack that took the site down for around 72 hours.

This is the face of a man who's main blog has just gone down. Not pretty.

For those interested in the techie stuff, the hack was what’s known as the ‘Silence is Golden’ hack, caused when someone hijacks the blog and changes the way the index.php files work. As a result, the blog appeared completely blank, getting what’s become known as ‘The White Screen of Death’. I was also unable to log in to WordPress so couldn’t try and change the plugin that helped cause the problem.

Oh and that image (left) is a good representation of the face I pulled when it all went pear-shaped.

Anyway, we’re back up and running and I’m currently investigating ways to prevent this kind of thing happening again. To say it sucks when it happens may be the largest understatement you can imagine.

Hey folks,

Just a quick post to say Merry Christmas to you and your families.

I also want to thank you very much for being a part of this adventure. I’m nearly one year in to creating a highly profitable online business and have learned a massive amount that I’m looking forward to passing onto you in 2011.

I have loads of great posts planned for you once Christmas is over and the snow has melted (it’s still fairly thick on the ground in parts of the UK). I’m excited to share some of the new directions I’m taking the site in, including more videos and podcasts. I’ve already got my first podcast guest of 2011 lined up and it’s going to be a corker! I also have a few things I’m going to be getting off my chest about internet marketing that I think you’ll find interesting.

Most of all, I want to provide lots of great value to you, my readers and subscribers.

As a result, I’d like to hear what you want to learn and do online in 2011. So please take a moment to let me know in the comments section below and I’ll do my best to include it in the posts in the early part of the year. If it’s an area I’m not familiar with, I’ll find someone who is and bring their expertise to you.

If you read my blog last week, you’ll see that I chatted a bit about the new plugin I discovered thanks to my friend Wayne Lambert. The plugin is called Pretty Links and helps you to cloak links using your own domain name. Very cool.

Well, I have an update for you…

I was writing some articles recently for Ezine and other similar directories and realised that they wouldn’t accept these cloaked links, even though I’d made them pretty. Incidentally, when I say pretty, I don’t mean that I’ve covered them in flowers and patterns. I just mean that they now have look like this:

mydomainname.com/pretty-link

instead of like this:

bit.ly/random-collection-of-letters

So, although the plugin is awesome for blog and e-mail postings, it doesn’t work for article links. However, what does work very well is using domain names to cloak the links. Basically, you buy a domain name, then set it up to forward to your affiliate link. Whenever anyone clicks on it, it takes them straight to the affiliate promotion.

Now you may be thinking: ‘Yeah, but isn’t it more expensive to buy a domain name every time you want to cloak an affiliate link?’

Yes, of course it is, but there’s a very good ‘up side’ to doing it this way.

OK, so I’ve made online sales before. But this one is special. This is the first time I’ve sent out an e-mail to my list on behalf of a JV (Joint Venture) partner and made a sale.
